DJ Nigga Fox
Batida de Angola
DJ Nigga Fox works up dark, urban variations on kuduro (translation: “hard ass”).
Kuduro has also established itself abroad, namely as the number-one street sound in Lisbon’s Angolan community. Not surprisingly, this setting has given rise to darker, harder, more urban varieties of the style. The best example of this is the post-euphoric Afro-house by the young producer Nigga Fox, whose one leg moves to Angolan beats while the other dances to European club music, somewhere between Shackleton and Villalobos. These are the kinds of comparisons coming from magazines like “Fact,” “Fader” and “Wire,” as well as Thom Yorke, about Nigga Fox’s instrumental minimalism. Should the term post-kuduro one day enter the vernacular, it will have started with him.
