O grande kilapy (The Great Kilapy)
D: Zézé Gambao
Auditorium

In the Bantu language Kimbundu, kilapy means scam or fraud. Based on a true story this political thriller full of black humor tells the story of a great real-life conman, bon vivant and Don Juan.
João Fraga, forced to return to his home country because of his affair with the daughter of one of Dictator Salazar’s ministers, taps into the capital flows that Portugal channels into Angola to pacify the colony – and, through his trickery, earns folk-hero status. A portrait of the feverish final phase of colonial rule, with the authentic sounds of Luanda’s 1960s club scene providing the film’s soundtrack.
