Another world-spanning phenomenon that’s loved and hated in equal measure: the bolero, the epitome of Latin American schmaltz, swansong of fallen women and wretched victims of love.
Salvadora Andaluz from Bogotá, figurehead of “nueva canción” and “Space Bolero,” is currently generating a buzz with the creation of a new genre bastard, “bolero salvaje,” based on lyrics of the Colombian avant-garde band Meridian Brothers, who have twice performed at HKW.
