Concrete Walks
As part of the research project Education Shock, which examines the global educational offensive of the 1960s and 1970s, in the 2020/2021 school year, Education in Concrete took place at eight Berlin schools built during that era. What is it like to learn today in yesterday’s educational laboratories? And how can they be co-shaped as learning environments of the future?
Four audio walks along the participating schools in Lichtenberg, Kreuzberg, Neukölln and the Märkisches Viertel explore the school architectures and the students’ perspectives on their spaces of learning: from Berlin’s first Gesamtschule and utopias of the past to stories of periphery and center to the students’ depiction of everyday life and imaginary journeys through the school buildings.
