Catherine Burke

Catherine Burke is a Reader in the History of Education and Childhood at the University of Cambridge and has researched and published with a focus on architecture and education, cultural histories of education, histories of networks in educational innovation, visual methodologies in the participation of children in the design of education, and histories of creative pedagogies. A major focus of her research is bringing a historical awareness to current initiatives to “transform” education via school-building renewal. She is on the editorial board of several journals and is editor of the Sources and Interpretations section of the History of Education Journal. She served a term as President of the History of Education Society (UK) 2013‒16, and currently is joint series editor of the Routledge Progressive Education series.
