Hubert Fichte: Love and Ethnology
Exhibition and research project
2017–2020
The writer and ethnologist Hubert Fichte (1935–1986) is considered a poetic and documentarian realist precursor for new disciplines in Germany such as Queer Studies and Postcolonial Studies. The exhibition and research project Love and Ethnology opens his works for a critical contemporary discussion.
In 2017, the cooperation project with the Goethe-Institut started out: selected novels have been translated into Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Wolof. Exhibitions curated on-site showed new artistic works – in 2017 in Lisbon, Salvador de Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, in 2018, there were exhibitions in Santiago de Chile, Dakar and New York. In fall 2019 in Berlin at HKW the exhibition Love and Ethnology – The Colonial Dialectic of Sensitivity (after Hubert Fichte) will conclude the project.
