Celebration of the Shortlist & Award Ceremony 2016

What literary forms does current narration assume? How is the present manifested in language and written works that find their way in translation through new media and cultural co-potentials? The Internationaler Literaturpreis goes where “making literature” takes its course: in the midst of writing, translating, reading and their consequences. Extending the Reading Zone negotiated changing language codes, encompassing and far-reaching texts and paratexts, unexpected complicities and readerships in an accelerated literary present.

In readings and conversations on literary material, the authors and translators offered insights into their own reading canons, into production processes and the contexts and paratexts of their own work and translations. They answered any “Questions while Reading” asked by the social reading group who currently is reading all shortlist titles. Roundtables discussed the new “economies of translation” and the experience of “being translated” in modern-day global contexts. The summery and multilingual event was moderated by Thomas Böhm and Aurélie Maurin.
