Morton Subotnick is one of the pioneers in the development of electronic music and multi-media performance. Most of his music calls for a computer part, or live electronic processing; his oeuvre utilizes many of the important technological breakthroughs in the history of the genre. In the early 60s, he worked on what may have been the first analog synthesizer. The work which brought him celebrity was Silver Apples of the Moon which is in the focus of Technosphärenklänge #4. Subotnick is also pioneering works to offer musical creative tools to young children.

Alec Empire is a prolific producer. With his label Digital Hardcore and band Atari Teenage Riot, he has played a huge part in politicizing rave culture and creating the soundtrack for the black blocs of the 1990s, all while building an impressive solo career.

Lillevan is an animation, video and media artist perhaps best known as founding member of the visual/music group Rechenzentrum (1997-2008). Lillevan has performed and collaborated with many artists from a wide array of genres, from opera to installation, from minimal electronic experimentalism to dance and classical music; performed and exhibited all over the globe, and at all the major media festivals.

Caterina Barbieri is a composer based in Berlin. Repetition and pattern permutation lie at the core of her current sonic research. By means of synthesis, pattern-based operations and additive canons, her music draws severe geometries in time and space. She has composed music and She has performed her compositions for old and new synthesizers as well as for string instruments at festivals including Berlin Atonal, Berliner Festspiele’s Maerzmusik, Norbergfestival. The Wire magazine has described her music as “a trip deep within the mothership – hypnotic and beautifully disorientating”.

Valery Vermeulen is an electronic musician, mathematician, music producer, new media artist, and author. He teaches at the Art & Technology department at Erasmus University College, Brussels. Vermeulen holds a PhD in pure mathematics and a master’s degree in Music Composition. Since 2003 his multimedia projects have been focussing on the interaction between man, machine and mathematics covering a broad range of disciplines including algorithmic music composition, artificial intelligence, biofeedback, creative evolutionary systems design, astrophysics, econometrics and data sonification. His installations and performances have been extensively shown in Belgium as well as abroad.
