A pupil repeatedly strikes his pen against his desk. The teacher gives the students a choice: collaborate or leave the class. Thus begins Kiarostami’s reflection on social obligations, human loyalties and betrayal. A singular cinematic and historical document on Iran’s cultural revolution.
