Forró-documentary film, Switzerland, 2008, 74 min

Two stars take a journey across the dry, arid northeast of Brazil in search of the origins of Forró: the musicians are French jazz and tango accordionist Richard Galliano and the Paraíba-born Brazilian singer-guitarist Chico César. They don’t just talk, they play the wild tempestuous music and dance of the people along with the biggest names and local Fiesta ensembles in the region. One of the film’s highlights is the highly anticipated teaming up of Galliano and the great Brazilian accordionist Dominguinhos. For its engaged portrayal of authentic Forró music, a form that is in danger of disappearing, the film won the prize for “Best Musical” at the 2008 Tiburon International Film Festival in California.
