Un Yamada (*1969) is as well trained in ballet and modern dance as she is in gymnastics and Butoh. Since 1996, she has worked on more than 28 small and major pieces. She has received invitations to stage her works at festivals in Asia and Europe. Yamada made a name for herself not only with her solos and improvisations, but also with Vaca, a piece developed jointly with musician Tomomi Adachi. She founded her own company three years ago. In 2002, Un Yamada was nominated for the Toyota Award, Japan’s top dance award. (In the year 2000, she received the Young Choreographer's Prize.) Her regular tours have taken her to Seoul, Paris, New York, Montreal and other places.
