Teater Garasi was founded in 1993 by Yudi Ahmad Tajudin, Y. Kusworo Bayu Aji and Puthut Yulianto when they were studying at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. Since then, the collective has produced seventeen plays, mostly directed by Yudi Ahmad Tajudin. A number have been produced in close co-operation with contemporary Indonesian authors. Some of their plays are interpretations of European drama’s by Camus, Genet, Beckett and Lorca. Garasi is also involved in social projects and youth work, and stages cultural events, festivals and workshops to present new forms of theatre in Indonesia.
