Christoph Markschies
Christoph Markschies is professor of church history (parish history), ordained minister and vice-president of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 2012. From 2006 to 2010 he was President of the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. His research deals with forms of ecclesiastical organization and the transfer of knowledge in early Christianity and the representation of Christianity in public space. His work has been awarded with numerous prizes (amongst them the Leibniz Prize 2001 and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany 2017) and has been published widely. Besides his scientific contributions Markschies participates regularly in current theological and social debates.
