Mark Ernestus
Mark Ernestus founded the Hard Wax record store in Berlin in 1989, which soon became a hotbed for the city’s burgeoning electronic club music scene. Ernestus played a key role in establishing the Berlin-Detroit nexus and started creating music as one half of Basic Channel and later on as Rhythm & Sound. In the mid-1990s, Basic Channel set up Dubplates & Mastering as Berlin’s first mastering and vinyl cutting studio specialized in club music. In 2011, Ernestus began working with some of Senegal’s top percussionists and formed the group Mark Ernestus’ Ndagga Rhythm Force.
