The Kilaueas

With few beaches, no horizon for spectacular sunsets, and scarcely a breaking wave, Berlin is hardly a surfer’s mecca. Even so, The Kilaueas, led by guitarist Ralf Kilauea, have worked tirelessly since 1988 to put the city on the map of the international surf-sound revival with their sixties-style “Reverb Drenched Magmaphonic High Energy Instrumental Surf Music.” The “Ramones of Surf” have made a great success of it thus far, with three albums, a program of their own compositions plus rare genre classics, a number of contributions to compilations, and international tours. In early 2013, drummer Fred Kilauea (Aurélien Bernard, Blue Man Group) took over as the rhythmic backbone of this instrumental quartet with the lush guitar reverb.
