Jerry Dammers' Spatial A.K.A. Orchestra

Jerry Dammers, founder of the 1980s ska-punk band The Specials and the 2 Tone label, brings his 24 piece Spatial A.K.A. Orchestra to Berlin.

The band started as a tribute band to the late Sun Ra, who claimed that he was abducted by aliens and sent back to teach the human race the (inhuman) music of Saturn. Beside Sun Ra’s music and related sounds, Dammers’ orchestra plays spaced-out versions of his Dammers’ own works. With apocalyptic ecological warnings embodied in such songs as Sun Ra's "It’s after the End of The World" or "Ghost Planet"—a twenty-first century reworking of Dammers’ legendary "Ghost Town"—the program will reflect the questions raised by the idea of the anthropocene.
