Madredeus
Classical Portuguese music like it has never been played before – that is how the founder of Madredeus, Pedro Ayres Magalhães, describes the band’s style. In April this year, the album “Essência” was released to mark the group’s 25th anniversary, with a completely new formation built around Magalhãe’s classical guitar.
In addition to the long-standing band member Carlos Maria Trindade (synthesizer), Jorge Varrecoso and António Figueiredo (violins), Luís Clode (violoncello) and Beatriz Nunes (vocals) reinterpreted Madredeus classics and in doing so, rapidly climbed to number 5 in the Portuguese charts. Now, Madredeus, who made a name for themselves here in 1994 with the soundtrack to Wim Wender’s film “Lisbon Story”, are coming to Berlin with their new line-up.
