Meeting Points 6 - Opening
Okwui Enwezor: „Civitas, Citizenship, Civility: Art and the Civic Imagination“, an event as part of Mosse-Lectures der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
One year after the beginning of the “Arab Spring”, this multi-disciplinary festival, curated by Okwui Enwezor and coming to Berlin on the third leg of its tour after stops in Beirut and Brussels, takes a look at the latest developments in the region. “Meeting Points 6” takes up the current historico-political momentum and presents the artistic and social positions which are currently dominating discussions about social identities and political subjectivization.
“Meeting Points 6” is an open forum for emancipatory logic, new public spheres in civic society and artistic positions in both the Arab and western worlds. The three-day program includes contemporary performances, readings by writers and producers working both locally and internationally and discussions about “Civic Imagination” with international academics and intellectuals, a retrospective of the Syrian filmmaker Omar Amiralay (1944 – 2011) and documentaries of the revolutionary events of the past year.
