The 40-year-old Violeta is a dentist. She ahs just moved into a new apartment on the Copacabana with her husband and son. All of a sudden, she receives a telephone call on her way to work that turns her routine life upside down. In desperation, Violeta plunges into the urban chaos of Rio de Janeiro’s nightlife – on a journey that is to last until the break of dawn.

Karim Ainouz (* 1966 in Fortaleza) studied architecture at university in Brasilia and cinema studies at New York University. He earned his breakthrough with “Madame Satã“. The film premièred in Cannes in 2002, while “Suely in the Sky“ premièred in Venice in 2006. In addition to directing films, he has also written screenplays for other directors. In 2004, he came to Berlin with the DAAD artists’ program and has lived here ever since. He is one of Brazil’s most renowned and innovative directors.
