Theater – German Première
Angélica Liddell (Madrid)
El Año de Ricardo
Spanish with German subtitles
The enfant terrible of Spanish theater, Angélica Liddell, meets the epitome of human evil and hunger for power: Shakespeare’s “Richard III”.
She creates a radical, female version of the cynical exhibitionist that was the monster Richard III. Angélica Liddell questions the relationship between human bodies and power. In her self-experiment, she triggers an avalanche of linguistic fusillades and self-inflicted injuries. In doing so, Liddell takes to the limit questions such as the extent to which the body can determine human will-power, when private matters become social ills and how personal complexes can turn into totalitarian experiments. The spectator, abandoned in the darkness of the theater, is her witness.
