Dj-Set and Lecture
Matthew Herbert
DJ-Set and Lecture at the Überlebenskunst.Klub
He wants nothing less than to change the world and write the soundtrack to a revolution: Matthew Herbert, the all-rounder of the electronic music scene.
The well-known British DJ and successful producer, Matthew Herbert, will be a guest at the last ÜBERLEBENSKUNST.Klub before the large festival in August. Matthew Herbert has dedicated himself to experimenting with politically controversial issues such as commercial food production in his music. In the Klub, he will talk about his political activities and will finish off the evening with sounds for a better future.
Matthew Herbert is multi-talented in the electronic music scene, producing remixes for names such as Björk and R.E.M. and putting out numerous albums to critical acclaim. Herbert started giving his music a political slant at the beginning of the new millennium: while "The mechanics of destruction” (2001) criticised consumerism and multinational companies, "Plat du Jour" (2005) aims to raise awareness about problems in the food chain.
What triggered this transformation in Herbert? Can music spark cultural change? What issues does Herbert think are the most pressing today? The music journalist, Oliver Ilan Schulz, will talk about his work starting at 8 p.m. This will be followed by a DJ set.
