Multikultur 2.0. Willkommen im Einwanderungsland

For decades, Germany refused to accept the reality that it was a land of immigration. The debate about ‘multiculturalism’ has ossified into simple demands that the ‘other side’ integrate. At the same time, the concept of multiculturalism, ‘imported‘ from the US in 1990, has become the target of criticism here and abroad: It distinguished between people according to their countries of origin and thus reduced culture to ethnicity.

Time, then, for an update: “Multikultur 2.0. Willkommen im Einwanderungsland Deutschland”, edited by Susanne Stemmler for the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and featuring contributions by figures of international renown, presents new concepts for diversified societies. The book examines how institutions can respond to increasing diversity and seeks a language for this diversity.

Claudia Roth presents the book talking to Nevim Çil (political scientist and author of the book), moderated by Daniel Bax (taz).
