Poly-cultural and poly-sexual, the underground electro-clash band Futon from Bangkok has become an absolute shining success only two years after their founding. Their music is the opposite of the saccharine Thai pop cliché. They have been described as “a head-on collision between Asian and European pop culture” by Asian MTV Trax Magazine. Futon has one member from Thailand, one from Japan, and three from Great Britain, including Simon Gilbert, the ex-drummer from the band Suede. Their first hit, a cover of the Iggy Pop hit “I wanna be your dog”, appropriately has lyrics in Thai, English and Japanese. It was a hit in England, and in Thailand rocketed to number 1 on the charts. They are in Berlin now with an exclusive engagement to present their second album Love Bites.
