Based on a real life incident that took place on October 18, 1987 involving a soldier, Private Adam, who randomly fired in the area of Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. Due to circumstances particular to that time and place, this action triggered a citywide panic and rumours of racial riots. "The Big Durian" chronicles the monologues of 23 Malaysians who give their real and fictional accounts of the incident.
