Shape of the Moon

The film cites one matriarchal family’s struggles as catholic widow Rumidja attempts to come to terms with her son’s recent conversion to Islam. Positioned at the crossroads of contemporary Indonesian society the film explores the country’s partitions and dichotomies such as the urban and the rural, the conflicts between Islam and Christianity and the ongoing dispute of traditionalism versus modernity.
