Freshlyground (RSA)

With its high-energy fusion of rock, jazz and Afropop, Freshlyground not only have been named ambassadors of the South African soccer association, they also are performing the official World Cup song at the World Cup Kick-Off Party with Shakira.

They’ve sold well over 200,000 albums in South Africa and in 2006, they nabbed the "European MTV Award for Best African Act”. In 2007 and 2008, they won "Album of the Year” with "Ma'Cherie". With seductive vocals and a heavy dose of township jive from singer Zolani Mahola, Freshlyground is "one of the country's great party bands and capable of even more". (Guardian)
