Concert
Grace Nono
Closing concert of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2005
Hypnotic singing and a voice with a variety facets and moods: singer-songwriter Grace Nono has conquered the international stage. The Business Daily in Manila refers to her as the ‘alternative diva’—a clear reference to her brilliant performances and the way she combines her love songs, lullabies and spiritual songs with political themes.
The Bob Aves Group, who support Nono on stage, play bronze bells and percussion instruments typical of the Philippine archipelago as convincingly as they do the keyboards and the drums, the sitar, the Chinese fiddle and the violin. Grace Nono seeks to develop her country’s cultural and historical treasures in the form of relevant contemporary art. The International Herald Tribune describes her music as the ‘latest craze among Manila’s bohemian set’.
The evening will be opened by short speeches of the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, and the Director of the House of World Cultures.
The concert is followed by the APW closing party in Café Global at the House of World Cultures.
Presented by the Asia-Pacific Weeks, supported by Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin (DKLB).
