Zeit Policy Forum: The Path to Unification

Although Helmut Schmidt is on the road to recovery, he must, unfortunately, decline the invitation to take part in this edition of ZEIT FORUM POLITIK for health reasons. We are delighted that Hans-Dietrich Genscher has agreed to take part in this event at such short notice.

For the majority of Germans, the fall of the Berlin Wall was a unique event in their lifetime – and it was the same for Richard von Weizsäcker. In his new book, his memories are the starting point for a historical retrospective about the path to unification. Personal experiences are combined with observations about German history, the traditions shared by the East and West, and the great challenges for the future. Together with Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Richard von Weizsäcker reflects on his personal experiences and on that of the Germans mirrored through the past and present.
