Dhaou Aïcha M'Barek’s and Hafiz Dhaou’s brilliant dance language originated in one of the most richly diversified cultural scenes of the Arab world. In Tunis, an Arab modernity has evolved, assimilating and transforming European traditions. It has engendered a unique style, especially in the domain of contemporary dance, which displays considerable sensitivity towards gestures, space and the body. The two young dance choreographers, who studied in France and elsewhere, confidently communicate this development.

Le Télégramme (2002) translates images and emotions from Marguerite Duras’ novel "The Lover" into a congenial dance language. In Zenzena, which was first performed in France in 2002, the captive, hurt body provides the starting point for an impassioned study of movement. The duet Khallini Aïch, which was composed in 2004, celebrates love between two people, touching on fear, desire, death, sexuality, loneliness and violence: to the music of Oum Kalthoum’s classic piece Amal Hayati - The hope of my life.
