Gustavo Ciríaco (Brazil)
Still - sob o estado das coisas (On the State of Things) (2007)

A game involving presence and absence, swapped clothes and identities, light and space – but it doesn’t end there. The title Still offers a clue: the performers examine their own movements by pausing and freezing in tablaux-like fashion. With subtle irony, Gustavo Ciríaco and architect Anniken Romuld outline the conditions of masculinity in an age of digitally subverted realities. In the process, Ciríaco, a qualified political scientist, displays a special skill that distinguishes him from others: the ability to combine contemporary dance with humour. Still was awarded Brazil’s national dance prize.
