Julian Rosefeldt: Lonely Planet
Video, Deutschland 2006, 18 min, Original Version
India – in a nutshell: A man appears from nowhere only to disappear again in the desert. In between times, video artist Julian Rosefeldt stoically becomes acquainted the country’s clichés on foot: from a ritual bath in the Ganges to the Bollywood set, bringing them to life in all their authenticity.
Julian Rosefeldt (*1965) lives in Berlin. With his film Lonely Planet, he won the prize of the KunstFilmBiennale, Cologne, 2007.
Timo Novotny: Life in Loops
Documentary film, Austria 2006, 79 min, Engl. subtitles
A remix instead of a remake: Music-film-maker Novotny uses material from another film (Megacities, a documentary that was highly praised by the critics) edits it, and adds a new soundtrack. In this way, he creates layer upon layer of narrative and visual elements, which harmonise with one another or clash fiercely. Mexico City, New York, Tokyo: cycles of life, of physical and psychological poverty.
Timo Novotny (*1973) lives in Vienna. In 2006, Life in Loops won, among other things, the prize for the best documentary film in Karlovy Vary.
