Europe was and is an anti-fascist and united endeavor of peace. The Many want to commemorate this. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Europe and the defeat of the national socialist German state and 70 years after the foundation stone was laid for the European Union, the Many are gathering while remaining physically distant: In over 35 cities in Germany and Austria, makers of art and culture are implementing actions for the society of tomorrow. With projections and golden flags on facades, shining websites and golden social media channels, they will campaign online and offline against hatred and for the beauty of diversity.

A live stream will combine the transnational actions and make them accessible online. On May 8, it will broadcast contributions by the more than 4,400 signatories, offering a space for large and small projects and letting diverse voices have their say. For Europe Day, the musicians Bernadette La Hengst and Barbara Morgenstern rewrote the Ode to Joy as a European Anthem of the Many. On May 9, hundreds of people will sing this alternative European anthem in their living rooms, on balconies and in the live streams. They call for an open and united Europe: a Europe in which no one is left behind – not at the borders and not in the crisis of this pandemic.
