Trans-Borders
The films in the Trans-Borders section of the programme tell of the many frontier crossings immigrants make before finally reaching their new home. In New York, the traditions and views these immigrants bring with them undergo a transformation. It is the collective result of this process that gives the city its polyphonic fascination.
Take Out
D: Shih-Ching Tsou & Sean Baker, USA 2003, 91 min., OV
To pay off his debts to the smugglers who brought him to the USA, Ming Ding must work nearly round the clock as a delivery boy for a Chinese restaurant. Reminiscent of Italian neo-realism, this debut of two graduates of the NYU Film School casts a merciless gaze on the everyday life of illegal immigrants.
