Accessing Images. Farocki Now: A Temporary Academy
With Kodwo Eshun, Laura Mulvey, Natascha Sadr Haghigian, Susan Schuppli and others
An evening on the accessibility of images in a visual present characterized by high performance algorithms, artificial intelligence, ramified data structures and legal framework conditions.
Starting from Harun Farocki’s work with and in pictures, the participants ask about the challenges of visual teaching and ways to counter the imminent loss of visual agency. The event launches the four-day Farocki Now Academy by the Harun Farocki Institute, which will be continued as part of the Harun Farocki retrospective at the silent green Kulturquartier between October 19 and 21.
The Harun Farocki Retrospective is a project by Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) in cooperation with Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art, the Harun Farocki Institute, Harun Farocki GbR, Silent Green Kulturquartier, Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König, Savvy Contemporary and Haus der Kulturen der Welt, as part of the Berlin Art Week, supported by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe. The academy is supported by: Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin, European Media Studies – University of Applied Sciences Potsdam/Potsdam University, Goethe-Institute, Gudang Sarinah Ekosistem, Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, Mass Alexandria, Mophradat, Temple University’s Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts.
