Raj, a pick-pocket from Mumbai, is accused of the attempted murder of judge Raghu. The story so far: The young Raghu disowns his pregnant wife because he is convinced that he is not the father of the child, consigning the wife and child to a life of extreme poverty. The son becomes a criminal, and over the course of the next 20 years the father and son’s paths cross several times – ending in court.
“Awara” means “vagabond,” a take on Charlie Chaplin’s famous Tramp character. The film and its soundtrack, including the vocals of Lata Mangeshkar, have enjoyed worldwide success – from India to China and Greece.
