“Folk with Attitude:” The Barmer Boys play Qawwali Sufi music or the energetic sounds of their native province Rajasthan in a catchy, modernized version.
Bandleader Mangey “Manga” Khan comes from a dynasty of singers, and has also mastered the dholak hand drum, harmonium, jew’s harp, bhapang single string drum and castanet-like khartaai. The Boys have already appeared live with international stars such as Bombino, BabA ZuLa and Vieux Farka Touré.
