During Brazil's dictatorship years in the 60s and 70s, leftist guerrilla prisoners and regular criminals were incarerated in the same inmate center in the Ilha Grande Island. Criminals learned organisation methods and guerilla tactics and formed the big drug dealer cartels that currently rule Rio's favelas. This historical process is fictionally depicted through the lives of two friends whose paths in life repeatedly cross.
