A reflection through painting formed the basis for this personal homage to the French film-making duo, Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet. In some 40 oil paintings and collages of drawings he produced since 2006, Stefan Hayn recalls and recreates situations, constellations and the spoken and unspoken in the films of Straub and Huillet. In the filmic reproduction, painting enters into a relationship with Danièle Huillet’s report on the shooting of their Schönberg opera film, “Moses and Aron” (1974) and Robert Antelme’s description of the escalating human relationships in the satellite concentration camp of Bad Gandersheim in “L’espèce humaine” (1946). Hayn’s film underscores the relevance of such an aesthetically and politically advanced and deeply personal artistic approach for which the oeuvre of Straub and Huillet stands, and at the same time, questions whether it can be transferred to others.

Following the screening of the film there will be a discussion with the musicians Egidius Streiff and Tomas Bächli.
