A blackout on stage. In the spotlight beam, a man’s arm reaches out. His hand searches, manages to make contact, explores naively and full of curiosity, grabs, feels without feeling … Embodied strings together physical states that may seem improvised, but are actually choreographed down to the last detail, to create ever new images. Also well thought through is the noise that accompanies every step: the crunching of film, and the plastic bubbles that explode with every move. The work’s point of departure is the conception (providing a marked contradiction to Descartes’ ‘I think therefore I am.’) that there is no rationality divorced from the body. ‘Our information is the body, which we treat as material. It can be manipulated, and made into its own DJ.’

Cristian Duarte has already received a number of prizes in Brazil and Europe for his work, including the São Paulo Critics Association Award 1998 and 2003.
