Made on a minimal budget and based on William S. Burroughs’ nonfiction book “The Job,” “Decoder” is an almost-forgotten document of cyberpunk. It revolves around the idea, developed by Burroughs, of using manipulated Muzak to drive a conformist, consumer-oriented society to rebellion. The soundtrack features, among others, leading actor F.M. Einheit, John Caffery, Dave Ball and Genesis P.Orridge, who, like Burroughs himself, makes a cameo appearance.
