Architectural Competition Haus der Kulturen der Welt
"Second Restoration and Modernization Phase"
Tue, Apr 1–Sun, Apr 27, 2014
Free admission
The former Congress Hall, today the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, is an icon of postwar modernist architecture. Just a few months after its completion, the building was given historic preservation status. Following initial renovations in 2007, the second restoration and modernization phase is scheduled for 2016.
A limited competition was held last year to select the architectural team that would take over the further planning process. The results can now be viewed in an exhibition. Five architecture firms submitted partial preliminary designs for the foyer of the main entrance area and the auditorium. The first prize was awarded to the bidder consortium of DFZ Architekten GmbH, Hamburg, and Pinck Ingenieure Consulting GmbH, Hamburg.
