How do we define "good living" given the global ecological crisis? This question, which is relevant for everyone no matter what social group they belong to, is the central thematic focus of Über Lebenskunst (the art of living), an initiative project of the Federal Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. In a multi-part programme, the project explores the profound changes our planet is undergoing through art – in performance, visual art, music, discourse and literature. Über Lebenskunst brings together actors from widely varying disciplines to identify existing strategies and to develop and test out models of sustainable living fit for day-to-day life.
In 2012, the project pursues sustainability in cultural production by perpetuating the results so far of Über Lebenskunst. By the summer of 2012, a special publication and a compilation from the music series HKW lokal documenting the combined experiences in art and culture will be released, using environmentally friendly production processes. Through the festival, which was visited by some 10,000 people in Berlin from 17 to 21 August 2011, Über Lebenskunst reflected the practice of contemporary cultural production, while pursuing the goal of acting in as climate-neutral and resource-saving a manner as possible.
The music series HKW lokal also continues in 2012. The architectural intervention imbaueinbau by the architect Florian Köhl, which is being set up on Tempelhofer Feld in the summer of 2012 as part of the World Exhibition of the Hebbeltheater am Ufer, will also be used in the future in various ways. The organization Instant City is coordinating the subsequent use of the facilities by new project partners.
