Pakistan! Brazil! New Zealand! Romania! – Once again, WORLDTRONICS is bringing electronic music from all over the world to Berlin: music that has either not yet made its mark, or has far more to offer us than the clichés would have us believe.
Take Brazil for instance: curator Arto Lindsay, the lively avant-garde legend and producer of Brazilian pop stars such as Caetano Veloso and Marisa Monte, has compiled a programme that has nothing to do with Baile Funk or a loungey café ambience, but consists of Maracatu, brass bands and abstract noise.
Or take Romania, for example: Groove chief-editor Heiko Hoffmann did not choose Bucovina noise or Balkan Beat Box, but the most important representatives of a new Bucharest minimalism. And then there is the Pakistan collection discovered locally by Detlef Diederichsen, head of the House of World Cultures’ musical department, and a group of tourists from New Zealand, brought together by musician, DJ and author Hans Nieswandt.
The opening evening is has a very special musical treat in store for you: 7 Women No Cry presents seven musicians from the compilation series "4 Women No Cry" on Gudrun Gut’s Monika-Label.
