Week-End Mixtape

An Imaginary Festival

Taking the time to listen to music. Listening closely to pieces or songs that someone has deliberately compiled, with good taste and enthusiasm, with a sense of humor or even a hidden message for the listener. Mixtapes are a rare pleasure in this age of algorithmic playlists and short attention spans. For 21 Sunsets, Jan Lankisch of Cologne’s Week-End Fest asked 50 artists to each put together a mixtape of 10 tracks. They all have one thing in common: They love music. The installation in the lobby of HKW makes the stories behind the mixtapes accessible, and the compilations can be heard via QR code on your own cell phone and online.
