Noughts & Exes
Hong Kong desire
Bittersweet harmonies, orchestrated with violin, cello, glockenspiel, guitars, piano, and melodica. In the space of four minutes, the songs of Noughts & Exes cover emotional territory from intimacy all the way to pathos. Despite their folky sound, the musicians from Hong Kong have proven genuine digital natives: a cleverly composed video clip by the band’s founder and singer, Joshua Wong, was instrumental in attracting attention to their second album, The Start of Us. In 2011, TIME magazine advised readers to keep an eye the band – and for good reason. Noughts & Exes financed their third album via the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, making them the first Hong Kong band to do so. Right on time for the long-awaited release of A Fine Line, the sextet will make its German debut on the stage of Wassermusik.
