Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid 2013
New cinema and contemporary art
From June 25–30, the cinema-art-festival Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid, curated by Natalie Hénon and Jean-François Rettig, once again transforms the Haus der Kulturen der Welt into a treasure trove of new cinema and contemporary art.
Contemporary visual culture occupies the interface between aesthetic, social and political issues and adapts to the continuing development of production and dissemination technologies. The cinema-art-festival Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid offers a future-oriented way of observing these practices. Curated by Natalie Hénon and Jean-François Rettig, the festival program was first presented last November in the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Following its stop in Berlin, it goes on show in September 2013 in Madrid.
Artists, visitors and experts have the opportunity to discuss the latest developments and issues in visual culture in a workshop headed by the Portuguese grand master director Pedro Costa (29 June), a panel discussion (28 June) and artist talks. In a film program curated by the director and screenplay writer Thomas Arslan, students of the program "Art and Media" at the Universität der Künste Berlin present their work. On Saturday, 29 June, in the context of a Carte Blanche, Pedro Costa screens his 1994 work "Casa de Lava", shot on the volcanic island of Fogo in Cape Verde (9 p.m.).
