Maarten Visser

Maarten Visser is a saxophonist and composer based in Chennai. Trained in improvised and contemporary classical music with a keen interest in extended techniques, Visser studied saxophone at the Brabants Conservatorium in the Netherlands and moved afterwards to Chennai to study Carnatic music. His collaboration with Padmini Chettur began in 2000 and he has since then composed music for all of her productions. They co-founded the artistic group Basement 21 in 2011 with other musicians and dancers to present performances, workshops and lectures on art. As a freelance musician, he has released solo works for saxophone and performed in numerous groups and projects, including contemporary improvisation trio MV3 and experimental trio oto.3, both of which he founded.
