Richard Drayton

Richard Drayton was born in Guyana and is Professor of Imperial and Global History at King's College London. He has explored the relationship between European imperialism and the natural sciences, with his prize-winning book Nature's Government (2000) examining the relationship between botanic gardens, religion and political economy in the British Empire. He has also worked on Caribbean history and political thought, the history of law and constitutions and the impact of overseas expansion on European capitalism.
