John Cowley

John Cowley is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London. He studies the history of carnivalesque and associated music in the English-speaking Caribbean. Focussing on Trinidad plus its association with Martinique (by extension 1930s French Caribbean music in Paris) his works include Carnival, Canboulay and Calypso (1996) and Mascarade, biguine and the bal nègre (2014).
