Olivette Otele studied at Sorbonne University in Paris and is Professor of the History of Slavery at Bristol University. She is the first Woman of Color to be a history professor in the United Kingdom. One focus of her work is on collective memory in postcolonial societies and Afro-European memory cultures. She is also the Vice President of the Royal Historical Society.
